Jo Dee Bucki: A Woman Professional Angler
When you hear of a professional angler, you often hear names of guys. Most of the people
actually believe that professional anglers are mostly males. Most, but not all! It is very heartening to note that
there is a woman professional angler that is a true inspirations to women who has the passion for angling. Jo Dee
Bucki is one professional angler that can truly inspire. Born in Stanford, Florida, Jo Dee is the apple of the eye
of dad John and mom Mardee Lake, Being raised along the Saint John’s River; the young Jo Dee learned how to fish at
an early age.
Currently, the professional angler is based in Birmingham, Alabama. She earned her college degree at University of
Alabama. She later married Jay, and both found jobs in Alabama and started their new lives there as a couple. The
couple is both passionate about fishing and during their spare time, they would just sail and fish in the central
part of Alabama, on their Carolina Skiff boat. Later on, they replaced it with a twenty-foot Triton Boat and called
it Betty Anne 5. The professional angler first participated in a local tournament sometime in February 2004, which
almost won her the Big Fish Category. During that tournament, she was able to fish a five point five
Largemouth.
When Jo Dee found out about the recently founded Women’s Bassmaster Tournament trail, Jo Dee can
no longer resist from joining it. She finished at the fifth spot, and from then on, she has come to realize that
she has indeed a calling for fishing. Jo Dee has then joined a number of tournaments that truly made a name of
herself, thus considered one a professional angler of her own. However, this professional angler is not only
concerned about her career in the fishing industry. Jo Dee is surprisingly one of the biggest supporters of Hand in
Paw. Hand in Paw is an organization that provides therapy that is animal assisted to both the children and the
adults. Together with her dog, Maya, Jo Dee has helped inspire a number of people thru her timeless support of the
organization. Aside from that, this professional angler is also a writer. Along with her friend named John
O’Malley, the president of the Strategic Visions Incorporated, and of course her ever-reliable dog Maya, Jo Dee
loves writing books for children that primarily focused in animal assisted therapies.
At present, she lives with her husband Jay, and they do not have kids. However, they have three
lovely dogs named Maya, Josianne, and Lee. You can really feel the burning passion of this professional angler,
balancing her job as a sales executive, and a professional angler. She is popular for her fishing techniques called
the Crankbaits and the Shaky head. She spends some of her leisure time around Lay Lake, in Alabama.
Now who says women cannot join professional tournaments for angling? Jo Dee Bucki is indeed one
concrete example and inspiration to those women who has the heart and the passion for professional angling.
