Its name is actually derived from its long dorsal spine with a lighted tip attached on the fish’s head that is often used as a natural lure for their preys, thus considered analogous to the art of fish angling. The male angler has hook teeth that is often used to attached to the female angler, joining its blood vessels and possibly spend the rest of its life as a parasite, mainly getting its nourishment straight from the female’s body. However, if the male will be unable to attach to a female, there’s a greater likelihood that it will eventually die of starvation.
