The Turning Stone's new Event Center provides 55,000 square feet of display area. A dozen boat dealers will, show boats from their inventories and 40 exhibitors will fill tables at the event hall, says Kessler.
"We're going to have everything from kayaks to yachts," she adds.
Dealers from the Rochester area to the Albany region have signed up to exhibit.
The deadline for exhibitors to sign up is Feb. 1. Boat dealers will pay $2,600 to exhibit while other exhibitors will pay $350 per table at the three-day show. Non-profit agencies receive a reduced $125 table rate.
Exhibitors will show off the latest in boating accessories such as safety equipment, electronics, and other add-ons. Charter captains, marina owners, and other boating-related vendors are scheduled to display. Area tourism promoters will exhibit at the show, says Kessler.
The show will cost promoters approximately $40,000 to put on.
"We're going to spend more than $20,000 just on advertising," she adds.
The Upstate Boat Show and Fishing Sale will be marketed via television, print radio, and billboards in markets from the Mohawk Valley to Watertown, Syracuse, Rochester, and the Southern Tier. Hall rental, insurance, brochures, and other expenses add to the show's budget.
The exhibitors will spend March 2 and 3 preparing for the show. Set-up times run from 8 . through 8 . each day. The event opens at noon on Friday, March 4, and begins at 10 . Saturday and Sunday. The show shuts down at 8 . on Friday and Saturday and wraps up Sunday at 6 .
The boat show is returning to the Turning Stone after five years, says Kessler. The resort's new event space al lows for more exhibitors and more boats than other venues in the Mohawk Valley. The first time she booked the resort in 1999, exhibit space was tight. Resort officials decided that the display configuration might pose a safety hazard to guests. Promoters booked the Utica Auditorium for the past several years. Now that the Oneida Nation has added its new event hall, Kessler explains, space is no longer an issue.
The Turning Stone's location, attractions, and facilities make it the perfect place for the show, says Kessler. Each weekend the resort hosts 75,000 visitors, parking is free, and casino amenities help attract visitors to the boat show as well as give boat show patrons additional activities.
"It's a great opportunity to come out and see all the new parts of the resort," she says.
The Events Center is part of the Turning Stone's $300 million expansion project. In addition to trade shows, the center hosts concerts. Country singer Tim McGraw opened the facility last month and several other music acts are booked through this year.
Extensive casino security and indoor parking facilities are other factors in choosing the Turning Stone's event center.
"Patrons can go from their garage to the Turning Stone's garage and avoid having to go outside altogether," says Kessler.
