About Fly Fishing
Fishing has gone from being a trade to being a professional sport. While most of the fishing
done today is for commercial purposes, there is quite a lot of hype about fishing for fun. While most people do it
for leisure there are others who do it for competing sports. The winner is usually decided based on the size of the
fish caught, and it is not uncommon to see high levels of competition and effort put into these sports.
Fly fishing is a unique type of fishing that has been around for some time. In
fly fishing, fishermen use flies as bait to catch their fish. Nowadays, however, the flies used are mainly
artificial and consist of a bunch of materials tied together to imitate flies. Usually feather, fur, hair and other
materials are used to mimic the appearance of a fly to trick the fish.
Another factor that affects the type of fly used in fly fishing is the type of fish the
fisherman expects to catch. Different fish are lured in by different types of baits. The flies are created to
imitate real living things such as insects or tiny animals, common to the fish. Other types of flies are created to
simply be attractive to fish by tricking their instincts into identifying the flies as prey. These types of flies
use attractive colors to make them appealing to the fish.
Fly fishing is done in both salt water as well as fresh water. As usual the type of equipment
and flies used in both waters differ from each other. The fly fishing rods used in salt water fly fishing needs to
be more durable than fresh water fly fishing. This is because the salt water fly fishing rods are more prone to
corrosion than fresh water fly fishing rods.
Fly fishing rods are made of different
materials. Two common materials that fly fishing rods are made out of are graphite and fibre glass. Graphite fly
fishing rods are obviously much lighter than the fibre glass rods. This allows them to be more accurate, allowing
fishermen to make better aims at their fish. However, graphite fly fishing rods usually tend to be more expensive
than the fibre glass fly fishing rods. They are ideal for fresh water fly fishing. Fibre glass fishing rods, on the
other hand, are more heavy-duty, since they are less prone to damage. This makes it better than graphite fly
fishing rods for use in salt water fly fishing.
